Our Story

Me: “This isn’t working.”

Him: “This is a good cookie.”

In 2011, our founder, Emily Hall was a late 20-something trying to figure out what the hell she was doing with her life. One thing she knew at that moment was that he wasn’t it. So she made him some cookies and dumped him. He paused his protests long enough to compliment the cookie, so maybe the cookie was as good as she suspected. (They are based on the Jacque Torres New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe!)

Fast forward 10 years: Emily was late 30-something trying to figure out what the hell she’s doing with her life: pandemic-style. Neat! Hall decided in the fall of 2020 to sell frozen dough to friends and family, just through the holidays as a hobby. When strangers started reaching out to request dough, she decided to see what it would look like to make the dough available year round.

The first batch of The Breakup Cookie® was available at Nourish Foods in April 2021, and in fall of 2021 they became available at 6 Birmingham area Piggly Wigglies.

In the many years since the first time Emily made The Breakup Cookie®, she got married, started a career as a food stylist, and had some pretty cute kids. She’s made her infamous cookies many, many times but never again to dump someone.
